The Singing Opera Bear
Violetta sings “Sempre Libera” from La Traviata, by Giuseppe Verdi
Soprano Penny Shumate is the voice of The Opera Bear.

The heart breaking story of the beloved opera, La Traviata, is one of love, sacrifice and forgiveness. The beautiful courtesan, Violetta Valery, gives up her carefree life, or “Sempre Libera”, in Paris to live in the country with her true love, Alfredo Germont.
Her joy is short lived, when Alfredo’s father calls upon her to sacrifice her love for Alfredo, to preserve his family’s reputation. Jealousy, anger and misunderstanding follow. In the end forgiveness reunites the lovers, but it is too late. Violetta dies of consumption.
