Biblical characters provide ample fodder for opera plots but only a few have made their way onto the operatic stage: Samson et Dalila , Salome and Verdi's spectacular Nabucco . The opera is set during the Babylonian captivity of the Hebrews, beginning with King Nebuchadnezzar's (Nabucco) destruction of Jerusalem and abduction of the Hebrew nation into servitude in Babylon . In reality, the opera was a thinly disguised protest against the Austrian domination of Northern Italy during the 1800s. The famous chorus “Va pensiero” became a rallying cry for freedom, not just for the Hebrew slaves in the opera. but for the Italians who suffered under Austria and eventually for all who have endured oppression.

American Baritone Mark Rucker has sung the role of Nabucco at Bologna , St. Galen, and the Bregenz Festival and has starred at many of the great European opera houses. Adrienne Dugger is in demand in Europe for her mastery of the dramatic soprano repertoire of both Verdi and Wagner. Her appearances at Bayreuth and at the Metropolitan Opera (Turandot) have garnered rave reviews. Carlo Scibelli has appeared at Covent Garden's Royal Opera House, San Francisco Opera, Deutsche Oper Berlin (Ismaele) and Teatro Colon. Esteemed designer and director Roberto Oswald of the Teatro Colon in Buenos Aires will stage the production and Maestro Christian Badea will conduct.
Running time approximately 3 hours, 15 minutes.
